Move Comes as World's #1 Domain Registrar Sees SSL Market Share Skyrocket
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Go Daddy keeps giving back to the Internet community, this time by extending its offer of a one-year SSL certificate to developers of open source projects and applications at no cost.
The continuation of this popular program comes as Go Daddy's market share of Secure Certificates keeps expanding at a rapid rate. It has jumped to 17.41 percent - from 10.33 percent in January 2007 - according to the latest numbers from Netcraft Ltd.
Go Daddy is also the world's leader for Web sites hosted with SSL Certificates.
An SSL Certificate enables encryption of online transactions and communications. Go Daddy offers this important protection in three assurance validation levels: Standard, Deluxe, and Premium with Extended Validation. All Go Daddy certificates offer up to 256-bit encryption.
"The open source community is responsible for critical projects that millions of Web users rely on each and every day," said Go Daddy CEO and Founder Bob Parsons. "Not only are these certificates being offered free of charge, but they are backed up with Go Daddy's 24/7 world-class customer support."
Go Daddy began awarding SSL certificates to open source requestors in 2005.
Open source packages, such as well-known applications like Mozilla Firefox and Linux, are typically created by developers who share code for the betterment of the application. They are then offered to the public free of charge.
SSL Certificates are not restricted to open source community members. Anyone who wants to make data transactions secure on a Web site can and should invest in one.
Developers who distribute their applications under an open source license can find more information about free SSL certificates at https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/ssl/ssl_opensource.asp.
