PURE Bioscience Announces Licensing and Distribution Agreement with Mid-Continent Packaging, Inc. for SDC-based Private Label Hard Surface Disinfectant
Business Wire, March 6, 2008
Biosilver[TM] Disinfectant Targeted to Direct-to-Consumer Television Shopping Networks
SAN DIEGO -- PURE Bioscience (OTCBB: PURE) today announced it has granted a license to privately held Mid-Continent Packaging, Inc., a company with over 45 years experience in contract chemical packaging, for blending, packaging and distribution of PURE's patented silver dihydrogen citrate (SDC)-based hard surface disinfectant. Mid-Continent will market the product through direct-to-consumer television shopping networks under the brand name Biosilver[TM].
Under the terms of the agreement, PURE Bioscience will sell Mid-Continent bulk quantities of SDC concentrate. Mid-Continent will blend the concentrate into the EPA-registered SDC-based disinfectant and will market the product under the brand name Biosilver[TM] to the direct-to-consumer television market. Biosilver's[TM] superior broad-spectrum efficacy combined with reduced toxicity make it ideal for the control and prevention of dangerous bacteria and viruses including resistant forms of Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA), Avian influenza and Norovirus. In addition, Biosilver[TM] is odorless, colorless, non-corrosive, non-flammable and is compatible with other disinfecting and cleaning chemicals.
Mid-Continent has registered Biosilver[TM] with the US EPA as a sub-registrant of PURE Bioscience and is currently undergoing registration in all 50 states. In accordance with the agreement, each bottle of Biosilver[TM] features PURE's "Powered by SDC" logo. The contract provides for increasing annual minimum purchases; other specific terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Steve Epstein, Vice President of Mid-Continent Packaging, Inc., commented, "In the US alone, the major home shopping networks posted revenues of over $10 billion in 2006 and are known for creating brand awareness and as well as quick and successful launches for new products. Biosilver[TM] is a truly revolutionary product. The disinfectant presents an excellent merchandising opportunity for the networks as there is greater national awareness of the dangers and growing prevalence of many infectious diseases, including resistant forms of Staph. According to published data, over 85% of television shopping customers are female, and the core demographic is a 50-year-old affluent woman who enjoys shopping. We believe that is the perfect target audience for Biosilver[TM], and we expect to launch the product in the second quarter of 2008."
Michael L. Krall, President and CEO of PURE Bioscience added, "Mid-Continent has solid distribution connections to the direct-to-consumer television market. This is a distinctly new sales channel for our technology, and we are excited about the prospects of not only increased sales but also increased consumer awareness of silver dihydrogen citrate as a more powerful alternative to traditional poisonous disinfectants."
Revolutionary Disinfecting Power of Biosilver[TM]
BioSilver is a Category 4 disinfectant that is strong enough to destroy the most resistant germs, yet is labeled for use on children's toys. BioSilver carries a 30 second kill time and a remarkable 24 hour residual kill on Staph, Pseudomonas and Salmonella, a 2 minute kill time on MRSA and VRE, a 10 minute kill time on fungi, a 30 second kill time on HIV Type I, and a 10 minute kill time on other viruses - and does not require rinsing after application. In addition, Biosilver quickly eliminates food borne pathogens, including Listeria and E. coli in 20 seconds and 2 minutes, respectively. These claims distinguish the efficacy of the SDC-based disinfectant from leading commercial and consumer products currently on the market, while maintaining lower toxicity ratings. Based on the EPA toxicity categorization of antimicrobial products that ranges from Category I (high toxicity) down to Category IV, PURE's SDC-based disinfectant is an EPA Category IV antimicrobial for which precautionary labeling statements are normally not required. This compares with Category II warning statements for most leading brands of disinfectant products.
Epstein concluded, "If you compare the BioSilver label against the label of a leading brand disinfectant, it is what you don't see that tells our story: You will not see any Warning or Caution wording on the front panel; you will not see Hazardous to Humans and Domestic Animals, Personal Protective Equipment, First Aid, Note to Physician, or Physical & Chemical Hazard words or language on the back label, as you will with any of the leading brands."
