For the second year, local affiliates from the National Council of La Raza (NCLR) and local National Urban League chapters will join Comcast as national partners of Comcast Cares Day.
"Comcast calls thousands of communities across the country 'home,' and we're very proud that 50,000 of our employees, their families and friends will give up their Saturday to help improve their neighborhoods," said Comcast Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brian L. Roberts. "Comcast Cares Day is the cornerstone celebration of a year-long commitment to our community, and we're thrilled to partner with hundreds of organizations across the country to help make this special day a resounding success."
"One reason we're able to accomplish so much on Comcast Cares Day is because of the partnerships we have with community organizations, including NCLR and the National Urban League," said Comcast Executive Vice President David L. Cohen. "Our partnerships allow us to continue our work together to provide opportunities that improve the lives of Hispanics and African Americans in the thousands of communities we serve around the country."
"We are very excited and proud to join forces once again with Comcast on a project that will benefit so many throughout the country. For NCLR, this is an example not only of Comcast's commitment to the communities in which it operates, but also of Comcast's recognition of the value of community-based organizations and of the important role that NCLR Affiliates play in creating stronger communities in every region of America. Comcast Cares Day is a great example of how all of us can make a difference, by bringing to the table the best of what we do and working together," said Janet Murguia, NCLR President and CEO.
"Comcast is leading efforts to help improve the overall quality of life for African Americans across the country," said Marc H. Morial, NUL President and CEO. "The National Urban League is thrilled to partner with Comcast, as Comcast Cares Day should serve as a model of community outreach for other corporations."
The Comcast Foundation will also donate more than $1.5 million in grants to local community partner organizations on behalf of each employee and family member who volunteers on Comcast Cares Day. The grants will help Comcast's community partners continue their mission of serving the community throughout the year.
