The editors of Electronic House magazine received more than 400 entries from 175 custom home dealers and installers to this year's Home of the Year competition. Winners in three levels--gold, silver and bronze--were awarded in 14 categories and exemplified the far-reaching potential for incorporating audio, video, whole-home automation, lighting control and more into today's electronic house. The past two years' winning Home of the Year entries have been featured in NBC, CBS and ABC news segments that were seen by over two million viewers each year. "The fact that the major broadcast news outlets have shown interest in this competition is a great testimony to the high level home installations submitted as well as a growing consumer interest in the connected home," said Cindy Davis, Editor-in-chief of Electronic House.

The grand prize category was awarded for overall Best Electronic House of the Year, and the top nod went to a San Diego residence that managed to combine great electronic systems with energy-efficiency and many more green aspects. Other categories included winners for the best: Master Suite, Outdoor Space, Family/Media Room, Kitchen, "Fun" Room, Home Theater ($10,000-$25,000; $25K-$50K; $51K-$100K; $100K-$250K; $251K and above), "Wow" Factor, "Green" Home and Grand Spaces.

"Electronics in the home can be much more than the big plasma screen and surround sound that comes to everyone's mind. Our winning homes highlight everyday lifestyle benefits that systems such as lighting control, climate control, and multiroom music and video bring, and the winning home theaters combine innovative designs with incredible audio and video," concludes Davis.
