Fujitsu Unveils Cash-Recycling U-Scan Genesis Self-Checkout at FMI/Marketechnics 2008

Business Wire,  May 1, 2008

New Feature Reduces Cash Management Labor and Cash Float; Improves ROI

LAS VEGAS -- Fujitsu Transaction Solutions Inc. will unveil a U-Scan[R] Genesis self-checkout system that features MEI's Cashflow[R] Bank Note Recycler (BNR) at the Food Marketing Institute's FMI Show + Marketechnics 2008 in Las Vegas, May 4-7, 2008.

Fully integrated into the U-Scan Genesis self-checkout system, the cash recycler eliminates both traditional cash dispensers and acceptors, and consolidates all bank-note handling into one compact device. Paper currency inserted into a U-Scan unit is validated, stored in recycling cassettes and then dispensed as needed for other cash or ATM/Debit cash-back transactions.

Cash recycling significantly reduces the amount of currency loaded into self-checkout lanes each day, which also reduces cash float, cash management costs, back-office labor and loss prevention concerns. Tests show that an 80-90 percent cash reduction rate is possible, meaning the units can start with only a few hundred dollars each day, rather than $1,000 or more.

To further reduce labor, a single hand-sized loader cassette allows all bills to be inserted into the U-Scan lane, and then sorted automatically by denomination into different recycling cassettes for dispensing. At the end of the day, the cassette can be pre-loaded and placed in the back-office safe until needed.

In addition, a separate cash box collects all high denomination notes and overages, leaving the recycler ready at the minimum levels for the next period of service, thus reducing labor and time required to recount start-up tills.

"When released at FMI Marketechnics just one year ago, Fujitsu promised that the new U-Scan Genesis would offer retailers a new level of features, flexibility, scalability and reliability like never before," said Paul Burel, self-checkout strategic marketing leader at Fujitsu Transaction Solutions. "And in just one year, Fujitsu has delivered the highest capacity and most versatile self-checkout product line including a completely new multi-media software user interface, and a host of other new ground breaking software and hardware features that are geared to be broadly applicable to any retail market segment."

Fujitsu is demonstrating the Cash Recycling in the U-Scan Genesis self checkout system at booth #2467 during FMI Show +Marketechnics.
