Zipit Wireless Makes Industry-Changing Move with Free, Unlimited Text Messaging

Business Wire,  May 12, 2008

Z2 replies to texting cheers and high cell bill jeers

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Zipit Wireless Inc., makers of the Zipit[R] Wireless Messenger 2 (Z2), announced for the next three months the company is offering one year of free text messaging with the purchase of its portable, wireless messenger. The addition of this feature offers new Z2 users truly free and unlimited text and instant messaging with no contracts or commitments.

According to research, more than 27 million teens communicate by IM and text message, the No. 1 and No. 2 forms of text-based communication, respectively, sending billions of instant and text messages every day. For many families, this popularity leads to high cell phone bills and arguments about tying up the family computer for hours. The palm-sized Z2 offers a solution to both problems and is the first and only purely Wi-Fi based device to provide the flexibility of both types of messaging. Users are no longer tied to the family computer and can freely roam the house and other Wi-Fi "hotspots" while staying in touch with friends without risk of overages or hidden fees.

"We are thrilled to give teens and their parents a true alternative to high cell phone texting plans," said Frank Greer, CEO and President, Zipit Wireless. "To kick off our new partnerships with Bestbuy.com and Target.com we're offering consumers a great way to keep in touch with friends for free."

To qualify for the free texting offer, the Z2 must be purchased and activated by July 31, 2008. Consumers who do not purchase their unit during the promotional period will still receive 10 free text messages per month and can take advantage of one of the best values for texting in the industry - unlimited texts for one year for $29.99, compatible with more than 20 cellular carriers. The unlimited texting offer is based on reasonable personal usage of 5,000 incoming and 5,000 outgoing messages per month.

The Z2's innovative MyFriendz[TM] list instantly merges users' existing AOL, MSN, Yahoo friends to a single window. And, with the texting application teens can add their friends' cell phone numbers to screen names on their MyFriendz[TM] list. In addition to keeping teens connected with their friends the Z2 includes a fully capable music player called MyTunez[TM]. It provides instant access to music collections stored on an optional Mini-SD card or streamed from the Internet. Teens can also view photos and slideshows with the built-in MyPhotoz[TM] feature.

Parental Controls

Zipit Wireless gives parents peace of mind with its web-accessed "parent portal" and allows parents to manage the specific days of the week and the amount of time the Z2 can be used. This technology provides an added layer of security and comfort that complements the safety features inherent to the Z2 design - such as refusing messages from unknown or unsolicited contacts. The portal can be accessed via http://parents.zipitwireless.com.

The Zipit Wireless Z2 can be purchased at www.bestbuy.com, www.target.com and www.zipitwireless.com. The suggested retail price is $149.99.
