GE Energy Supports Department of Energy's Commitment to "20% Wind Energy By 2030"
Business Wire, May 12, 2008
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Victor Abate, Vice President-Renewables for GE Energy, today released the following statement supporting the U.S. Department of Energy's call for wind energy to meet 20% of U.S. electricity consumption by the year 2030:
"Realizing the vision of 20% wind by 2030 is vital to our nation's energy and environmental security. This critical report shows how, through sustained industry commitment and the strengthening of supportive policies like the production tax credit (PTC) and Renewable Portfolio Standards, wind can become a mainstream power source and an engine for economic growth."
"Wind is an abundant domestic resource that we are harnessing to meet America's present and future energy needs while reducing greenhouse emissions. By committing to this goal, the U.S. can maintain a global leadership position in this growing industry."
"However, for wind energy to realize its potential, the industry needs stable public policy. Renewal of the PTC will promote cleaner, renewable power that is essential to the continued growth and success of wind energy."
