"One of MEDecision's primary goals is to provide flexible collaborative health care management solutions that can grow and change to meet an organization's evolving needs," said MEDecision Founder and CEO, David St.Clair. "The Innovation Award is an opportunity for us to recognize some of the unique ways our clients are using our products to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of their care management processes."

Using MEDecision's clinical programs technology has enabled WEA Trust to discontinue the outsourcing of its disease management processes for maternity programs. It has also allowed the company to create an internal management program called, Club Mom, which has helped WEA Trust assess pregnant members and identify those who may be at risk for high-risk pregnancy.

The two finalists also demonstrated superior innovation in their award submissions.

Excellus BlueCross BlueShield's entry involved the integration of worksite wellness activities with medical management programs. The insurer uses MEDecision's solutions to deliver a robust and integrated approach to health and medical management programs by making full use of information, including biometric data -- blood pressure, cholesterol, BMI -- collected during worksite wellness events. This enables the company to measure and report worksite wellness activity and results and to provide early intervention to at-risk members.

In its entry, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey described an initiative to incorporate utilization management, case management and disease management efforts onto a single technology platform. This has allowed the organization to automate key processes, apply consistent care guidelines across business lines and increase membership.

The MEDecision Innovation Award is given as part of the company's annual User Conference. Held from May 6-9, this year's event gathered more than 130 representatives from more than 30 MEDecision customers for a week of presentations, demonstrations, workshops and seminars designed to help them improve care management programs through the optimal use of the company's collaborative care management solutions. Conference highlights included keynote addresses by a number of industry experts focusing on some of health information technology's most pertinent and emerging issues, particularly the patient centered medical home, wellness/proactive care management, interoperability and collaboration.

Prior to the start of the User Conference, MEDecision conducted its 5th Annual Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Forum. The event brought together numerous senior physician executives from throughout MEDecision's client roster to discuss their respective achievements and challenges in optimizing care management.

The Innovation Award finalists and winner were selected by the User Conference Committee, a group of MEDecision customer representatives and employees charged with planning and executing the event.
