SPAMfighter Issues Consumer Alert: Female Online Shoppers Are Spammers Latest Target

Business Wire,  May 13, 2008

With More Women Shopping Online Than Men, It is No Wonder Spammers Have Started Targeting Women with Spam against Shoes, Clothing, Bags and Perfumes

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Spammers are targeting the Internet's top user, female online shoppers, with spam attempting to sell designer labels to unsuspecting e-mail users.

According to a recent study by online marketing firm eMarketer, 66.9% of females over the age of 18 are online. Many are doing their online shopping online, driving spammers to increase their efforts to con women into purchasing designer name brands from them.

"Women need to be aware of the risks that come with online purchases. By having the latest software to protect against e-mail threats such as phishing and identity theft, women can feel more secure making their purchases online," comments Alix Aranza, Managing Director of SPAMfighter North America.

Designer names, such as Burberry and Gucci, are being abused by spammers trying to lure female online shoppers in to their fake online stores. By purchasing from spammers, online shoppers open themselves up to identity theft, phishing and, at best, purchasing fake products that may or may not ever be delivered.

Online shoppers should download spam and phishing protection for their e-mail in order to avoid falling victim to these threats. SPAMfighter offers a free spam filter for Outlook and Outlook Express and can be downloaded here: www.spamfighter.com/Download_Download.asp
