Thacher Proffitt Announces New Partner E. Lee Smith

NEW YORK -- Thacher Proffitt & Wood LLP announced today that E. Lee Smith has been promoted to partner as of July 1st, resident in the New York, N.Y. office. Currently a counsel with the Firm, Mr. Smith focuses on transactional aspects of commercial lending, loan restructuring and bankruptcy matters. He has been in practice for twenty-two years, including more than a decade of in-house counsel experience with prominent international banks.

Mr. Smith is also an active member of the Firm's Distressed Assets Group and recently was a panelist on the topic of "Opportunities in Distressed Assets" at the Thacher Proffitt Legal Update Seminar in New York, NY.

About E. Lee Smith

Mr. Smith represents commercial lenders and borrowers in commercial lending and loan recovery activities including: structuring and documenting new loans by arrangers of syndicated credit facilities for publicly-listed and private company borrowers; traditional full-dominion asset-based lending; cross-border lending; letter of credit financing; business insolvencies and bankruptcies; bankruptcy exit financing; secondary loan trading; and mergers and acquisitions.

Lee also advises parties to mortgage loan warehousing facilities.

Mr. Smith received his J.D. from The State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law in 1985 and his B.A. from St. Lawrence University, cum laude, in 1982. He is admitted to practice in New York, Maine and the U.S. District Courts, Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and the District of Maine.
