Sarnoff Corporation Awarded SRI International Subcontract to Develop Maritime Domain Awareness System for NAVAIR
Business Wire, May 19, 2008
PRINCETON, N.J. -- Sarnoff Corporation today announced that it will collaborate with its parent company, SRI International, to develop an integrated Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) system for the Special Missions Program that evaluates advanced sensing and situational awareness technologies for improved port security in the United States. The Sarnoff subcontract is part of a major contract awarded to SRI International by the U.S. Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR).
The project will focus on the development of an integrated system that improves upon existing maritime security to enable increased situational awareness of the surface, subsurface and aerial environments. The MDA system promises new opportunities for enhanced security by providing warnings of underwater anomalies, including vessels, underwater intruders, containers and other maritime and port elements. The warning system will generate actionable intelligence in a way that is readily usable by analysts, decision makers and emergency responders.
"Sarnoff's documented expertise with image fusion and video-based processing enables us to provide NAVAIR with technology that combines multiple sensor feeds into one common operating picture," said Dr. Don Newsome, President and CEO of Sarnoff Corporation. "The subcontract represents a major venture into the port security domain and offers us the opportunity to work with our parent company, SRI International, to support homeland security initiatives."
