Secunia Offers Enterprise Security Solution to SOHO and SME Market

Business Wire, May 2, 2008

COPENHAGEN, Denmark -- Secunia today released a new improved edition of the revolutionary Network Software Inspector (Secunia NSI), which now embraces companies of all sizes and geographic regions. Secunia NSI 2.0, is available as a free trial download and in our new on-line shop.

Secunia NSI Results

Nearly one year after the release of the first Beta of the Secunia NSI, the solution has proven its superior technology and value to enterprises worldwide. The customer feedback from 4.100 companies in the beta test, and the many customers who have purchased the solution, clearly underlines the uniqueness and the value of the first ever comprehensive scanning solution for identifying vulnerabilities and missing security updates.

"The Secunia NSI has been an eyeopener for many IT-administrators - and for IT-management as well. The comprehensiveness and accuracy of the results, combined with the very low impact on the network during scanning and monitoring, has opened many doors for our sales department. We are now increasing our spendings on both our internal research and product development of the Secunia NSI, which will benefit both current and future customers" says Niels Henrik Rasmussen, CEO of Secunia.

Since the first public beta test of the Secunia NSI in April 2007 and the launch of the personal edition (Secunia PSI) in July, Secunia has received an overwhelming number of requests for trials from around the planet and from businesses of all sizes.

To fully grasp the potential of the Secunia NSI, Secunia has decided to prepare the Secunia NSI for online sale by implementing a license key system in the new version.

The license key feature enables users to download the Secunia NSI and test the solution free of charge. Further, it allows customers to buy the solution on-line, opening a whole new market segment for Secunia.

The new license key model will also allow distribution via resellers and partners, Secunia also offers OEM / ODM options for software companies, hardware manufactures, and online services such as e-banking. Companies who wish to resell or OEM / ODM the Secunia NSI can contact partners@secunia.com for more information.

The Secunia NSI solution

The Secunia NSI makes it possible for organisations of all sizes to establish a vulnerability management process by documenting vulnerable applications and providing comprehensive reports with a highly accurate mapping of installed applications, patches, and version numbers. This not only helps the IT Administrators in their daily work but also helps corporations in their aim for policy and regulation compliance. The Secunia NSI currently covers more than 6.000 different applications and checks whether they miss security updates.

"Over the past year we have learned that even large publicly listed companies have numerous hosts in their network, where around 50% of all applications are either insecure or no longer supported", says Thomas Kristensen, CTO of Secunia. "It really constitutes a serious security problem since other security solutions rarely can protect against exploitation of more than a fraction of these vulnerabilities. The IT departments can no longer close their eyes to these critical issues", Kristensen continues.

What truly sets the Secunia NSI apart from the competition is the fact that the NSI looks for the version number and patch level of the individual program rather than trying to identify whether a given vulnerability is present. Not only is this a much more accurate approach, it is also much more useful for the system administrator, who really only is concerned about if a patch is required or not - whether it patches 1 or 10 vulnerabilities is less relevant. However, the Secunia NSI can also provide this information if the system administrator wishes to study the details.

"We have still not seen any solutions in the market, who gives the user the same value, and we can see from the interest we are receiving from IT-security vendors that we have found a potential in the market not covered by any other vendor", Kristensen concludes.

Pricing and Free Trial

Starting from today, everybody can download the Secunia NSI and test its unique scanning capabilities free of charge. We encourage all companies to make a sanity check on their installed applications. A free trial download is available to make it much easier for a company to get a touch and feel of the solution. System administrators can try it out on their own network to see how many unpatched applications they have installed.

"We want our NSI technology and vulnerability research efforts to benefit all segments. With the release of Secunia NSI 2.0 and the implementation of license keys, we can now distribute and sell the solution to companies with 1 host and up. We are already offering the technology free of charge to private users (Secunia PSI), and are certain that the new sales and distribution possibilities will result in huge sales success within the SOHO and SME segments" says Niels Henrik Rasmussen, CEO of Secunia.
