Business Wire, May 20, 2008
CORNING, N.Y. -- Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW) announced today that Navistar International Corporation named the company a 2007 Diamond Supplier. The award is granted to suppliers who meet or exceed Navistar's performance expectations for quality, delivery and cost. Corning was one of only 38 suppliers in Navistar's 2,500-member corporate supply base to have achieved this designation for 2007.
Each year, Navistar recognizes suppliers who strategically align with the company's business goals and demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement. Diamond suppliers collaborate technically and commercially with Navistar and play an integral role in growing Navistar's business. In addition, Diamond suppliers deliver products of distinction to mutual end customers.
"We are proud to receive the Diamond Supplier award from Navistar," said Curt Weinstein, vice president and general manager of Corning Heavy-Duty Diesel Technologies. "We value our collaborative relationship and will continue to work closely with Navistar and other vehicle and engine manufacturers to provide design and development guidance, systems expertise and innovative products that help them meet emissions requirements."
Corning is a leading supplier of advanced cellular ceramic substrates and diesel particulate filters for all of the world's major manufacturers of gasoline and diesel engines and vehicles. The company invented an economical, high-performance, cellular ceramic substrate in the early 1970s that is now the standard for catalytic converters worldwide. In 1978, Corning developed the cellular ceramic particulate filter to remove soot from diesel emissions. Corning continues to leverage its expertise in materials, processes and manufacturing to develop advanced ceramic substrates and diesel particulate filters that help meet demanding mobile emissions requirements.
