KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Provectus Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (OTC BB: PVCT), a development-stage oncology and dermatology biopharmaceutical company has announced that Provectus Chairman and CEO, Craig Dees, Ph.D. will present at the 34th Annual Scientific Conference of the American Society of Photobiology Monday, June 23, 9:00 am PDT to be held at the Burlingame Hilton California.
Dr. Dees said, "We are looking forward to presenting our data developed from studies in animals and clinical trials in humans relating to the "bystander effect." The bystander effect is the inhibition of growth or complete removal of remote tumors after intratumoral ablation of one or more other tumors using PV-10."
Data to be presented will include studies in laboratory animals that indicate PV-10 induces the immune system to mount an effective antitumoral response after chemo- or photodynamic ablation of intradermal tumors. Further, long lasting immunity to the introduction of a new tumor is induced in animals. Also, regression of untreated tumors in a patient suffering from melanoma will be presented. The bystander effect was not seen in nude mice unable to mount an effective antitumoral response. However, the ability to remove a remote tumor could be induced by transferring spleen cells to the immunodeficient mice or immunocompetent mice that previously hadn't a tumor ablated by chemo- or photodynamic ablation. The bystander effect was demonstrated with several tumor types including hepatocellular carcinomas and melanomas.
Dr. Dees continued, "These data, not previously published, helped provide the basis for our clinical trial design in humans which in Phase 1 trials have now also demonstrated the removal of untreated tumors by fully chemoablating a tumor using PV-10. Similarly in the Phase 2 clinical trials now in progress, we hope to repeat the bystander effect using larger numbers of human patients."
