New Zealand Service Provider Increases Capacity and Control With Juniper Networks High-Performance Network Infrastructure Solution
Business Wire, May 28, 2008
Orcon Selects MX960, E120 and C-series for Performance, Scalability and Reliability
SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:JNPR), the leader in high-performance networking, today announced that New Zealand's Orcon has deployed Juniper Networks MX960 Ethernet Services Routers and E120 Broadband Services Routers to increase the capacity and performance of its network infrastructure. Orcon will also deploy the SRC and C-series Controllers, part of Juniper's Session and Resource Control portfolio, to enable policy based control over network resources. Orcon selected the Juniper solution for its comprehensive functionality and operational efficiency.
"Juniper's solution is empowering us with the performance, economics and flexibility that we need to support our growing mix of high-performance IP services," said Thomas Salmen, Orcon's Chief Technical Officer. "The Juniper routing and control solution delivers top performance and reliability in a highly-scalable architecture that efficiently supports a large number of subscribers and services per system. The Juniper solution considerably reduces physical space, power consumption and operational overhead, while concurrently providing increased network control and standards-based interoperability."
The MX960 platform is largest-capacity Carrier Ethernet platform available on the market today, with up to 960 gigabits per second (Gbps) of switching and routing capacity, enabling more revenue per platform and providing the scale to protect Orcon's investment. It was designed for the wide range of business and residential applications and services that Orcon is offering or planning to offer - including high-speed transport and VPN services, next-generation broadband multiplay services and high-volume Internet data center internetworking.
At the network edge, Orcon will upgrade its existing E-series routers with the newer, high capacity Juniper Networks E120 Broadband Service Router. The E120 offers very high system capacity in a small form factor, and leverages the E-series' proven operating system to ensure feature and operational consistency. Orcon broadband customers will connect to the E120 across a variety of access technologies including wholesale DSL, ADSL2 , metro Ethernet and wireless connectivity.
Juniper's Session and Resource Control Portfolio delivers a carrier-grade policy and control solution that will allow Orcon to deliver high-value differentiated services to its subscribers--beyond its current offering of Internet access and VoIP--in parallel, across multiple access technologies, and will also enable Orcon to efficiently track and bill for those services.
"Service providers such as Orcon need to efficiently and effectively manage and control their expanding portfolio of value-added offerings even as they expand network capacity to accommodate these new services," said Alex Krawchuk, director for service providers, Juniper Networks, Australia and New Zealand. "We are pleased that Orcon recognizes the operational efficiency of our comprehensive routing and control platforms to address this crucial need."
