Business Wire, May 28, 2008
-- Insitu Pacific Pty Ltd. Formed to Address Increasing UAV Demand --
BRISBANE, Australia -- Insitu, Inc. today joined with the Queensland government in announcing the formation of its wholly owned subsidiary, Insitu Pacific Pty Ltd. during the Shephard's Unmanned Vehicles Pacific event being held on the Gold Coast Australia.
"This is an exciting beginning to our global expansion plans for the Insitu portfolio of products, and Queensland's commitment to developing technology makes it the perfect location for our first subsidiary," said Insitu CEO Steve Sliwa. "The decision to move forward with this expansion is based on our growing volume of business with the Australian Defence Force, and our planned expansion into commercial markets." Sliwa also commented, "Our presence here will give us greater access to organizations and opportunities in the Asia-Pacific region."
Insitu's Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), include the new Integrator[TM] and the military ScanEagle[TM], developed in partnership with Boeing. Insitu UAS are comprised of light-weight aircraft equipped with daylight and infrared cameras; a pneumatic catapult launcher; and a no-nets SkyHook[TM] vertical recovery system. Insitu systems do not require a runway, so they are a flexible solution for both land and ship based operations.
Desley Boyle, Minister for Tourism, Regional Development and Industry commented, "Insitu Pacific will provide opportunities for collaborative research and development, as well as jobs for graduates coming out of our universities. The Government worked hard to attract Insitu to Queensland. Their presence in the State will progress our UAV industry in leaps and bounds."
Insitu, along with Boeing Australia, is proud to be part of the experienced team that has delivered more than 13,000 surveillance and reconnaissance flight hours to help protect Australian troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
