New Consumer Electronics Event in Financial District Highlights City's Technology Leadership

NEW YORK -- New York City today formally welcomed the debut of Digital Downtown, a consumer technology showcase in Lower Manhattan. This new annual technology event is produced in association with the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)([R]), which represents the $161 billion consumer electronics industry and produces the world's largest consumer technology tradeshow, the International CES([R]).

Digital Downtown, New York's Consumer Technology Showcase, runs June 12-14, 2008 at the World Financial Center Winter Garden on Vesey and West Streets in Lower Manhattan. Digital Downtown's largest public atrium and adjacent plaza will feature new technology demonstrations by more than 25 participating technology leaders.

"Digital Downtown is a powerful commitment to our city from companies whose technologies are redefining the way that contemporary society communicates, entertains and creates," said Mayor Michael Bloomberg. "CEA's support of this initiative is a valued tribute to the technology leadership of our city, its people and its businesses."

"Our industry is proud to be a part of the redevelopment of Lower Manhattan," said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of CEA. "We are excited by the opportunity to build an annual public celebration of consumer technology at the office doorstep of the business leaders who drive the financial markets."

Digital Downtown is a partnership between CEA, producer of International CES, Martin Porter & Associates, ArtsWorld Financial Center and Consumer Technology Publishing Group.
