PECO Receives National Award for Employee Safety

Business Wire,  May 28, 2008

Employees Achieved Best Safety Record Among Gas Utilities

PHILADELPHIA -- The American Gas Association has recognized PECO with its Safety Achievement Award for having the lowest injury incident rate among medium-sized gas distribution companies in 2007. The company was cited at AGA's operations conference held recently in Phoenix. PECO also participated in an industry panel discussion on the key drivers for sustaining positive performance in employee safety..

AGA President & CEO Dave Parker praised PECO among a group of gas distribution utilities with "outstanding records for workforce safety."

"The safety of our employees and our customers is a top priority. The companies honored today demonstrate their commitment to safety every say in their work practices," Parker added.

PECO's Gas division recorded only two employee injury incidents requiring OSHA reporting in 2007 and zero incidents resulting in lost work time. PECO employs about 300 people in its gas delivery and plant operations, who are responsible for building and maintaining the utility's distribution network across Bucks, Montgomery, Delaware, Chester and a small portion of Lancaster counties. PECO serves 485,000 natural gas customers.

Mark Alden, PECO vice president, Gas, said, "There are inherent risks that utility workers face in our routine work, and this award recognizes a strong joint commitment between PECO management and employees to staying safe every day." Alden added that PECO's safety performance is attributed in part to adherence to many safety procedures, extensive employee training, and employees learning from each other. He said the company also is committed to promoting safety for contractors and the general public. PECO provides safety information for homeowners, children, and contractors on its web site at www.pecosafety.com.

Based in Washington, D.C., AGA is a national association representing 202 local energy companies that deliver natural gas throughout the U.S. AGA also recognized PSE&G in New Jersey among 17 member companies with outstanding best-in-class safety records in 2007.
