Heather Bendle is the co-founder of BabyEarth, a Texas-based baby products retailer and specialty store, with an eco-friendly flair. Five years ago, Baby-Wise was a garage full of baby items. Half a million products later, the company, led by husband and wife team James and Heather Bendle, is getting eco-wise as BabyEarth. The entrepreneurial Texas-based duo founded Baby-Wise (now BabyEarth) based on their experiences as both parents and consumers. "Our store is unique because it fills a much-needed void in the baby products market by offering the perfect combination of tried-and-true classics and innovative breakthroughs, including eco-friendly alternatives, all under one roof, explains James. "Baby-Wise was born out of frustration," says Heather, as she and James were both disenchanted with the hassles of shopping for their young children. "As a mom, I envisioned shopping for my babies as a fun, uplifting, meaningful event celebrating the arrival of a new innocent life. The reality was anything but," adds Heather. "The product selection was bad and the customer service was worse. When I asked questions about how much a stroller weighed or how easy it was to fold, nobody knew because nobody had actually used the products they were selling."
What started out as a solution quickly grew into a thriving family business. In 2005, the Bendle's two-car garage was practically exploding with baby products, so they moved the company into a warehouse. They have since moved two times due to growth and are currently located in a 15,000-square-foot warehouse, including retail space, in Round Rock, an emerging shopping district 20 miles North of Austin, Texas. As growth generates milestones, the company recently celebrated a new one by rebranding itself as BabyEarth to more accurately reflect its mission to make baby's world a happy, healthy and safe place. "Today customers want eco-friendly alternatives," explains Heather. "Going green is a personal choice and every family has its own unique needs. At BabyEarth, we advocate options. Helping parents make informed decisions about the products they use is empowering them to make the best choice for their family," she adds.
