Howrey Standardizes on Guidance Software's Leading EnCase[R] eDiscovery Solution for ESI Collection, Preservation and Processing

WASHINGTON & PASADENA, Calif. -- Howrey, LLP, a leading global law firm specializing in antitrust, intellectual property and complex commercial litigation and trial practice, and Guidance Software (NASDAQ:GUID) the World Leader in Digital Investigations[TM], today announced a strategic alliance to provide a cutting-edge eDiscovery solution to Howrey's clients worldwide. This innovative alliance combines Howrey's expertise in eDiscovery and complex litigation - including legal and technical oversight of the client's electronically stored information (ESI) preservation - with Guidance Software's industry-leading EnCase[R] eDiscovery solution, which enables companies to search, identify, collect, and process ESI from servers, laptops and work stations across their global network from a central location.

"This alliance is another example of how Howrey continues to provide added value to its clients with a defensible and repeatable eDiscovery process that at the same time reduces the ever increasing and burdensome cost of eDiscovery," said Ralph Allen, the firm's Chief Operating Officer. "Howrey's clients rely on us to provide timely advice on best practices in eDiscovery for defensible electronic discovery preservation. We are well aware that if eDiscovery is mishandled it can adversely affect the course of litigation and could result in severe judicial sanctions," Allen continued, "Our clients have indicated to us that what they want is a strategy that combines our litigation expertise with superior technology such as that offered by EnCase eDiscovery to minimize risk while making more predictable the costs of the discovery of ESI."

Howrey's decision to standardize EnCase eDiscovery represents a major departure from the traditional but expensive route practiced by most law firms of hiring third party service providers to perform costly eDiscovery collection and processing. This offering will address some of the significant issues associated with using outside vendors to provide eDiscovery. Howrey's eDiscovery professionals will now be able to leverage Guidance Software's EnCase eDiscovery, which is both a force-multiplier due its automation and scalability, and highly defensible as the standard, court-validated technology for computer evidence collection and handling.

"Howrey is a leader among major law firms in its innovative use of technology. The firm is on the forefront of eDiscovery trends and developments as exemplified by this groundbreaking alliance, which will deliver a highly effective eDiscovery solution to our mutual customers that will mitigate risk while dramatically reducing eDiscovery costs," said Victor Limongelli, President and CEO of Guidance Software. "EnCase eDiscovery is the clear market leading enterprise eDiscovery solution to collect and process electronically stored information, and Howrey is a perfect complement to our strategy given their stellar legal reputation and expertise concerning the convergence of technology and the law."

Under this approach, Howrey will offer the firm's clients the ability to conduct ESI collections of any size and scope using EnCase[R] technology across the company's network, overseen by Howrey's lawyers and eDiscovery project managers, ensuring defensible processes using the industry-standard technology. Additionally, Howrey's clients will have the option to procure EnCase[R] eDiscovery permanently to establish a defensible and systematized in-house process, with Howrey's eDiscovery attorneys implementing policies and procedures supporting the installation. Howrey will be the only law firm whose litigation support team has received EnCase[R] eDiscovery certification from Guidance Software, thus uniquely providing its clients with this important capability and expertise.

"This alliance provides a superior product and cost efficiencies for our clients," said Allen. "It allows Howrey lawyers and professionals, working with the Guidance Software team, to remain at the cutting edge of eDiscovery, a dynamic and rapidly developing field."
