Webtide's Greg Wilkins and Jan Bartel explore Jetty's embeddable and asynchronous features at JavaOne 2008

Webtide leads birds-of-a-feather session on the Jetty web server

SAN FRANCISCO -- Webtide, the main developers of leading open source Java web container Jetty, will lead a birds-of-a-feather session at EclipseCon 2008 in Santa Clara, California, on May 6, 2008. Webtide has a booth at the conference, located at Booth 1224-4.

The session will explore features beyond the core servlet features of Jetty, as well as the implications of them. Users and members of the Jetty developer community will be able to connect and discuss the current usage and future of these features.

The Jetty web and application server is rapidly gaining in popularity to Tomcat. In addition to its core HTTP server and compliant servlet container, it has several key features that distinguish it from other web and application servers. It is low-footprint with robust performance, which makes it highly embeddable and allows it to fully function in environments such as mobile phones. Jetty's port to Google's mobile phone platform, Google Android, was the first web and application server on the platform. By using the Comet protocol, it has two-way asynchronous communication in both the servlets and HTTP client. It is integrated with both the OSGi and Eclipse, and is the web and application server behind Eclipse Equinox. It also has Java Naming and Directory Interface (JNDI) implementation.
