Former Army National Guard Chief Surgeon to Lead Growing Healthcare Emergency Management Initiatives

ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- Tenon Consulting Solutions, Inc. today announced that Dr. Craig L. Urbauer has joined Tenon Consulting as a director. In this role, Dr. Urbauer will lead Tenon's growing efforts in forming and implementing healthcare-oriented public/private emergency management solutions.

Dr. Urbauer is uniquely qualified to spearhead these efforts given his direct experience in developing innovative solutions and coordinating large-scale domestic emergency response efforts. As chief surgeon, Dr. Urbauer coordinated healthcare policy and operations with the 54 states and territories within the Army National Guard. He supervised medical readiness policy and processes for the 150,000 Army National Guard soldiers mobilized in support of the Global War on Terrorism. During his tenure, Dr. Urbauer also coordinated medical support for the 50,000 National Guard soldiers performing rescue and recovery efforts following Hurricane Katrina.

Throughout his distinguished military career, Dr. Urbauer has served in a variety of leadership roles including commander of the Army Aeromedical Center, dean of the Army School of Aviation Medicine, Army Reserve Command Surgeon and several clinical leadership and administration positions. He is the recipient of numerous military awards including the Bronze Star, Distinguished Service Medal and the Order of Military Merit.

Prior to his military service, Dr. Urbauer was a partner in a successful urology and surgical practice headquartered in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Tenon is leading several engagements focused on developing solutions for complex emergencies that may overwhelm existing public sector response capabilities. This includes solutions related to bio-terrorism, pandemic disease and catastrophic natural disasters. This work has been performed in collaboration with a number of leading corporations, academic institutions, industrial and trade associations, and several public health and emergency management organizations across all levels of government. Most recently, Tenon, in collaboration with Business Executives for National Security, Emory University, Georgia Division of Public Health, Georgia Emergency Management Agency and more than 40 Atlanta-area private sector organizations, successfully demonstrated a large-scale public/private bio-terrorism response program. Through a drill performed across five metropolitan Atlanta counties, the program utilized private sector resources to form an effective pharmaceutical mass dispensing operation capable of rapidly delivering needed medication to entire communities. The success of this work, and work performed elsewhere, has led to Tenon performing similar efforts in several other states.

"Our firm is honored to have Dr. Urbauer join our team," states Anthony D. Begando, Tenon's CEO. "His expertise will be invaluable as we continue to develop and mature collaborative solutions that reduce the time and effort required to restore communities to a functional state following catastrophic emergencies. He will be instrumental in supporting our current client work and expanding this and related work nationally."

Dr. Urbauer earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Nebraska. He also holds master's degrees in public health from Johns Hopkins University and in strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College.
