Retailer's Web and in-store advancements earn recognition for Cross-Channel Innovation
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Endeca Technologies, Inc., a search and information access software company, announced today that its customer Borders Group, was named one of the leading cross-channel retailers of 2008 by RIS News. The global retailer received the honor for "Cross-Channel Innovation," in the 5th annual RIS Fusion Awards for their Web site that launched in May of this year. The awards were presented at the 2008 Cross-Channel Executive Summit. Endeca-powered capabilities - search, navigation and merchandising - are key components of Borders' new, integrated, cross-channel customer experience, which combines the assets of the retailer's new online channel and the benefits of its in-store experience.
Over the past few years, industry publications such as RIS News have been increasingly focused on cross-channel technology to align operational functionality and deliver a consistent and unique customer experience. This year's recognition of Borders was based on the company's successful initiatives to create a new Web presence, in conjunction with in-store technology deployments. Both focus on bringing the renowned in-store experience to the Web and integrated online programs, to in-store innovation. It was the second consecutive RIS Fusion award for Borders, with Endeca shortlisted as a key technology partner in both.
One of the more visible user experience innovations on the new Borders.com is the Magic Shelf([TM]). A feature specifically designed to bring the bookstore experience to life online, it was created using rich Internet capabilities from Endeca partner Allurent and creates completely new ways to explore books, CDs and movies by querying the Endeca engine.
"By collaborating with industry leaders such as Borders and many of its technology partners, Endeca can continually fuse this collective experience into new product innovation and deployment best practices," said Jesse Goldman, global lead, retail, at Endeca, "The Borders team exemplifies the ideal partner, one that aspires to push the user experience in completely new directions while always focusing on new opportunities for competitive differentiation."
