Business Wire, Oct 14, 2008
AUSTIN, Texas -- Ignite! Learning, a leading middle school classroom curriculum provider to more than 250 school districts, announced today that it is releasing a media and print curriculum to support the School Walk for Diabetes program. The curriculum was developed in partnership with the American Diabetes Association, the nation's leading nonprofit health organization providing diabetes research, information and advocacy.
The curriculum consists of:
* A custom-made video that teaches students about diabetes in an engaging, easy-to-understand format, while also teaching general health information about topics such as the digestive system and the importance of exercise.
* A student handout, along with teacher notes, to reinforce the lesson's key points.
* Six Ignite! Learning media pieces on related topics in health and science, such as the characteristics and functions of cells.
* Related handouts for the additional six media pieces.
Regarding the release, Quincy Neal, Vice President of the ADA's South Central Division, stated, "The SWFD is a K-12 educational fund-raising and awareness program that assists the ADA in its mission of diabetes treatment and prevention, while also teaching the benefits of healthy living. Ignite's instructional design and production teams worked with our team to design and develop this curriculum to meet the needs of our program. We are pleased to have Ignite! Learning as a partner in this mission."
Mike Whalen, Ignite! Learning's Principal Instructional Designer, stated, "Like the ADA, Ignite! Learning has a passion for improving students' lives. While our core curriculum products are specifically designed for standards-aligned, K-12 classroom teaching, our instructional design philosophies also work well with other learning programs. Community outreach is important to Ignite! and working with the ADA has been very rewarding."
