CCAGW PAC Endorses David Schweikert for Arizona's 5th District
Business Wire, Oct 15, 2008
WASHINGTON -- The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste Political Action Committee (CCAGW PAC) today announced its endorsement of David Schweikert for Congress in Arizona's fifth Congressional District. Mr. Schweikert is running against Rep. Harry Mitchell.
"David Schweikert is a true fiscal conservative who has pledged to reduce the size of government by working to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse," CCAGW PAC Chairman Tom Schatz said. "He understands the critical need to end Congress's addiction to spending and earmarking.
"He was known as a protector of tax dollars in his prior roles as county treasurer and state representative. He is a true fiscal conservative who has pledged to reduce the size of government by working to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse," CCAGW PAC Chairman Tom Schatz said. "He understands the critical need to end Congress's addiction to spending and earmarking." In contrast, Rep. Mitchell received a vote rating of 23 percent from the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW) making him "unfriendly" to taxpayers.
Mr. Schweikert has signed the CCAGW Earmark Reform Pledge. The pledge features ten principles designed to bring increased transparency and accountability to the spending process. Rep. Mitchell has voted to support earmarking. In fiscal year 2008, pork-barrel spending ballooned to 11,612 projects costing $17.2 billion.
In his CCAGW PAC Candidate Questionnaire, Mr. Schweikert pledged support for taxpayer-friendly initiatives such as budget and earmark reform, tax cuts, a Taxpayers' Bill of Rights, and the line-item veto.
"David Schweikert has the ability to lead Congress to improve the future economic outlook. America needs leaders who say 'no' to the continuing spending and pork-fest in Washington. David Schweikert will work in the best interests of Arizona's fifth District and taxpayers nationwide," Schatz concluded.
CCAGW PAC is affiliated with the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste, a 501(c)(4) organization. CCAGW PAC's mission is to support political candidates who will fight to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse in government and represent the best interests of taxpayers.
