Blue Coat WebFilter Product Named Readers Choice for Second Consecutive Year by Computerworld Singapore

Business Wire, Oct 16, 2008

SINGAPORE -- Blue Coat Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:BCSI), the leader in Wide Area Network (WAN) Application Delivery and Secure Web Gateway, today announced that the Blue Coat([R]) WebFilter[TM] product was awarded Computerworld Singapore Readers Choice in the content filtering category for the second consecutive year. The Blue Coat WebFilter product works in conjunction with the cloud-based Blue Coat([R]) WebPulse([R]) service to provide an integrated defense against Web-based threats.

The Blue Coat WebFilter product is the only Web filtering solution that works in tandem with a cloud-based service driven by user requests to rate unknown or new content in real time. By combining WebFilter with the WebPulse service, organizations gain the power of a community in which the discovery of malware by one is shared with all. Additionally, the Blue Coat WebFilter product can prevent an injection attack on a legitimate and popular Website from accessing the malware host that automatically downloads malicious code. This allows users to safely visit popular Websites while blocking any hidden malware downloads.

The Blue Coat WebFilter product categorizes more than 30 billion Web requests per day with more than 70 categories, including custom and unrated. Adding to that level of protection, the Blue Coat WebPulse service, which is driven by actual user requests, provides detailed, real-time analysis of Web site content in response to more than 150 million requests per day, using background processes to detect malware, rate web content and assess reputation ratings.

"Blue Coat WebFilter enables organizations to access a cloud-based community for more effective protection against newly discovered malware sources while enforcing corporate policies based on real-time ratings," said Matt Young, vice president of sales, Asia Pacific for Blue Coat Systems. "This award validates the Blue Coat approach to helping enterprises effectively fight against the growing threat of Web-based attacks."

The Readers Choice awards are selected by IT professionals and presented annually to vendors that deliver in the areas of functionality, performance, ease of use and value.
