The Latino Coalition Calls for the U.S. House of Representatives to Pass Economic Rescue Bill
Business Wire, Oct 2, 2008
WASHINGTON -- Following passage of the Economic Rescue Bill by the U.S. Senate, Chairman Hector V. Barreto of the Latino Coalition issued the following statement:
"The Latino Coalition strongly urges the U.S. House of Representatives to pass the Economic Rescue Bill following Senate approval. It is at times like these that the American people look for real leadership in the face of very difficult circumstances and Congress must act.
"The current financial crisis is beginning to have a real, negative effect far beyond Wall Street. People from all walks of life, including Latinos are being impacted. Our credit markets, so vital to our economic activity, are now being undermined, affecting the small business community, including Latino business owners.
"The Senate has demonstrated that it can set aside partisan bickering and political posturing and thoughtfully debate this consequential legislation. This is what the public expects of its political leaders. With our nation's economic future at stake, the House must now follow the Senate's lead and pass this bill."
