Business Wire, Oct 22, 2008

CHICAGO -- Walt Whitman's The Soul Children of Chicago gospel choir (www.soulchildrenchicago.com) will present Youth Alive United Worldwide 2008, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic ecumenical movement for the youth and young adults across the nation for the purpose of focused prayer and music. The event celebrates all of those who are in leadership or in authority and will be held at the UIC Pavilion on October 29 at 6:30pm. A congressional resolution has been issued by Congressman Danny Davis.

Important issues will include the AIDS crisis, youth violence, world peace and global concerns such as: drugs, violence, teen pregnancy, education and poverty. "It's no wonder that suicide has become the third leading cause of death in 15-24 years olds in America,' says Whitman.

"I would like to thank the Soul Children of Chicago for hosting the Youth Alive Symposium at the UIC Pavilion. Their hard work and their inspiring music is vital to increasing the quality of life for all groups or individuals that are fortunate enough to see and hear a Soul Children of Chicago performance," says Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley.

Illinois Secretary of State, Jesse White adds, "I have an enormous amount of respect for people like Mr. Whitman, for taking on the intense, yet rewarding task of cultivating the minds of children to help them reach their maximum potential. As we work with children, not only do we serve our communities, but we give them the tools they need to become our future leaders."

Often referred to as Chicago's "Goodwill Ambassadors", the award-winning The Soul Children of Chicago have been performed in locations such as: Denmark, Holland, Sweden, Israel and soon West Africa. In addition to recording with artists including, Celine Dion, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder and Mariah Carey, The Soul Children of Chicago have performed for each U.S. president since Gerald R. Ford.

"This event will showcase a unified front led by children. It will harness the impact of unification, ignite our youth to connect with the nation through the power of prayer," says Whitman.
