GOTRYBE.COM JOINS USDA IN CHILDHOOD OBESITY BATTLE

GoTrybe.com is being recognized for its efforts in the fight against childhood obesity, and has joined an elite group of businesses that have accepted the U.S. Department of Agriculture's "Corporate Challenge."

The Corporate Challenge is an effort by the USDA and its MyPyramid Web site to include businesses in family nutrition choices. Companies that have projects and missions that are consistent with the Dietary Guidelines will be acknowledged on the "Corporate Challenge" Web site.

"We're more than happy to accept this challenge from the USDA and to show our dedication to providing quality information to our GoTrybe members," said GoTrybe VP of Creative Development Robert Baggett.

Sharing common goals with the USDA, GoTrybe is an online source that encourages an active and healthy lifestyle for children, while giving families the tools to lead a more balanced life. Using fitness videos, as well as nutrition, wellness and motivational information, GoTrybe's mission is to combat childhood obesity and type 2 diabetes, which are prominent problems in the U.S.

"The purpose of the 'Partnering with MyPyramid: Corporate Challenge' is to equip consumers with the information that they need to make smart decisions about eating more healthfully and being more physically active," said Dr. Brian Wansink, executive director for USDA's Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion. "So GoTrybe.com plays an important part in bringing that vision to reality."

With the help of MyPyramid.gov, GoTrybe's Registered Dietician, Cheryl Williams will provide content in its nutrition section and in the children's and parent blogs that are in accordance with the USDA's Dietary Guidelines, in hopes of helping consumers make better decisions at home.

GoTrybe delivers information with the help of a professional staff. "We're very proud of the quality information GoTrybe offers its users," said Dr. Chris Downs, Cardiologist and GoTrybe Founding Partner. "Our fitness videos are led by certified instructors and our nutrition content is provided by registered dietitians. Now with this partnership between MyPyramid.gov and GoTrybe, we have yet another resource to ensure 'Trybers' that they are getting solid nutritional information to grow up fit and strong."
