Santa Clara University Oct. 28 Forum Discusses I.T. Policy and the Next American President
Business Wire, Oct 27, 2008
SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- For Silicon Valley and technology professionals, there's a presidential debate they have yet to see: How would each candidate for President help or hinder the United State's progress in key technology issues like broadband policy, controlling pre-teen access to the Internet, or Internet access for all via net neutrality? What is the proper role for technology in national security and privacy? How could the next President help the U.S. continue to foster innovation in technology, which has been one of the leading engines of economic growth?
At a forum Tuesday, Oct. 28 from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m., CBS News technology analyst Larry Magid will talk about the technology policy challenges that will confront the next President. Magid contributes regularly to the New York Times, San Jose Mercury News and other media outlets. He served for 18 years as a technology columnist for the Los Angeles Times and his columns have also appeared in the Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, San Francisco Chronicle, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, CNN.COM and numerous other newspapers and websites throughout the world.
He is a co-director of Connectsafely.org, and a member of the multi-state Internet Safety Technology Task Force, which will present an array of youth-safety initiatives for state Attorneys General to consider.
Responding will be Geoffrey Bowker, executive director of SCU's Center for Science, Technology, and Society, and Kirk O. Hanson, executive director of the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics.
