U.S. Army Awards Advanced Blast Protection $10 Million Contract to Produce Armored Buses
Business Wire, Oct 6, 2008
WESTON, Florida -- Advanced Blast Protection, Inc. ("ABP") today announced that it has been awarded a three-year Firm Fixed Price Requirements Contract from the U.S. Army to produce 24-passenger armored buses for U.S. military forces supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan).
The base contract for 27 armored buses, spare parts and technical documentation is valued in excess of $10 million. The initial Delivery Order against this contract is $1,466,216 to produce four armored buses. Further Delivery Orders will be issued as requirements develop. Additional requirements are expected to develop from the Department of Defense, other Federal agencies and the Afghanistan and Iraq Security Forces (Military and Police). There is also the possibility that other countries could have the same requirements that will be added to this contract during its 3-year term.
ABP, headquartered in Weston Florida, manufacturers armored specialty vehicles, ballistic glass and a family of field installable armored kits for commercial and military vehicles. Their current RhinoRunner(TM) armored bus routinely transports VIPs, diplomats and contractors on Route Irish, which is the heavily traveled, and highly dangerous, road between the Green Zone in Baghdad and Baghdad International Airport, as well as similar routes in Iraq and Afghanistan.
In addition to conventional ballistic glass, ABP manufactures a revolutionary and unique patented ballistic glass known as "One-Way" ballistic glass. ABP's One-Way ballistic glass provides unidirectional bullet-resisting characteristics. In other words, in addition to providing protection from in-coming bullets, it allows the user to return fire through the ballistic glass! The panels of the material are particularly useful in enclosures, such as vehicles, protective cages for a teller, or other such protective closures.
