Sequans' High Performance Chips Inside One of the First Mobile WiMAX Consumer Devices to Launch Commercially on Sprint's XOHM Network in the US
CUPERTINO, Calif. -- Sequans, the world's leading WiMAX chipmaker, is powering one of the devices that launched with Sprint's XOHM Mobile WiMAX[TM] service in Baltimore. Sequans chips are inside the MAX-206m2 desktop modem/router manufactured by ZyXEL[TM] that gives Xohm[TM] customers wireless internet access with built-in residential gateway functions. The MAX-206m2 uses Sequans' award-winning SQN1130 chip.
"Sequans has contributed much to the successful launch of XOHM said Bin Shen, Vice President, Broadband, at Sprint. "Not only have they provided advanced chip technology enabling state-of-the art consumer devices, but they have been at Sprint's side for many months supporting the extensive interoperability testing, refining, and retesting that has helped to bring about the historic launch of Mobile WiMAX service in the US."
"We heartily congratulate Sprint on the launch of XOHM in Baltimore, a truly important achievement in wireless broadband service that will eventually benefit millions of users," said Georges Karam, Sequans CEO. "The XOHM network is already performing beyond expectations, and I am very happy to see the initial reports of its impressive transmission speeds and high speed mobility that show it to be outperforming competing services. We look forward to the successful launch of XOHM in more markets."
Sequans is powering more than half of the Mobile WiMAX MIMO-enabled devices that are now certified by the WiMAX Forum[R]. Manufacturers who build devices based on Sequans chips are able to forego some of the testing that has already been completed, saving not only time to certification and market, but development costs.
