Business Wire, Sept 18, 2008
PHILADELPHIA & PITTSBURGH -- Thorp Reed & Armstrong today announced that partner Barry Cohen presented on September 17th, at the Global Patent Congress 2008. Sponsored by the Brand Protection (BP) Council, the annual event is a gathering of thought leaders in intellectual property, patents, copyright, and licensing for discussion of legal issues, IP management and strategy. This year's event was held from September 15-17 at the Marriott Hotel in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Presenting to an audience of in-house attorneys and IP managers, Cohen discussed recent U.S. Supreme Court patent decisions. In addition, he lead a general discussion about the U.S. jury trial system in IP cases, and how it contrasts with similar systems in the rest of the world.
"Intellectual property continues to be one of the most evolving areas of the law across the globe," said Mr. Cohen. "While the law can differ from country to country, it's important to understand how U.S. law and court decisions affect companies outside the U.S. This event helps bring together international expertise so companies gain a better understanding of how to structure their IP strategy and navigate the global legal environment."
Cohen concentrates his practice in the areas of commercial and business litigation and intellectual property, including trademark and copyright infringement. He has represented companies and individuals in the protection of their intellectual property rights and licenses, and has counseled businesses in developing proper intellectual property protection programs. Cohen is also a frequent commentator for CNBC on intellectual property and patent legal issues.
