InformationWeek Message to CIOs: Teradata is a Leader in Innovation

Business Wire, Sept 19, 2008

Ranked 22 of 250 Companies for Most Effective and Innovative Information Technology

MIAMISBURG, Ohio -- Teradata Corporation (NYSE: TDC), the global leader in enterprise data warehousing and enterprise analytics, today announced that the editors of InformationWeek (IW) have ranked Teradata number 22 in their annual list of "250 Top Innovators" in implementing information technology, which led the general list of the InformationWeek 500. The prestigious rankings were announced Tuesday at an awards ceremony at the InformationWeek 500 conference in Monarch Beach, California. The annual award session is a major highlight for the InformationWeek community, which includes chief information officers at hundreds of companies. The event theme was "Tomorrow's CIO."

The newest list of InformationWeek 500 companies extends a 20-year tradition for the publication. According to the editors, the list "spotlights the power of innovation in business technology, rather than simply identifying the biggest IT spenders." To be ranked, companies submitted survey responses based on their business technology strategies which were evaluated by IW editors. This was Teradata's first appearance since becoming an independent company.

Specifically, Teradata won a high ranking for its solutions methodology, used by Professional Services teams to implement Teradata solutions to customers; and its unique architecture for collection, consolidation, organization and cleansing of data in customer enterprise data warehouse systems.

At the event, Teradata and strategic partner SAS co-hosted a welcome reception for attendees, and the collaboration of the two companies was the focus of two presentations.

* A session led by former Discover Financial Services vice president Aldo Mancini described the Teradata-SAS joint accomplishments at the pioneering card and cash rewards leader. He cited dramatic results including reduced analytic model runtimes, in one case from a week down to 36 minutes and an overall tenfold increase in analytic output - extreme reductions in processing time on the Teradata Active Enterprise Data Warehouse.

* Teradata Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Stephen Brobst and SAS CTO Keith Collins co-presented on the game-changing speed, performance and power of in-database processing for advanced analytics. Driven by the partnership, the CTO's characterized this capability as "The New World" in analytical intelligence.

The September 15 edition of InformationWeek contains all rankings and lists, as well as two feature articles chronicling innovative information technologies at Teradata customers Highmark and BNSF. In all, more than 20 Teradata customers appeared in the rankings.

"Teradata is honored to be recognized for the innovative use of enterprise information, which is the most critical competitive advantage for any business," said Darryl McDonald, Teradata chief marketing officer. "This begins with the capability to capture and load data in near real time, support multiple users submitting many different and complex queries, and provide immediate access to front-line employees, customers and suppliers. Teradata is the only platform that can support this 'mix' of workloads while providing mission-critical availability."

"For 20 years, the InformationWeek 500 has honored the most innovative users of business technology," said Rob Preston, InformationWeek editor-in-chief. "Year after year, InformationWeek 500 companies harness technology to improve efficiency, boost productivity, drive revenue and establish a competitive advantage."
