With the unique mix of 2G, 3G, TD-SCDMA and WiMAX technologies prevalent in the Asia Pacific region, it is hardly surprising that femtocells (tiny cellular home access points) of all flavours are being actively trialled and in some cases deployed ahead of the rest of the world.
The Femtocells Asia conference, run by Avren Events, features many of the leading operators from the APAC region, together with their counterparts from Europe and America. Industry analysts, major OEMS, content and service providers as well as equipment vendors will also be in attendance. The recent Avren Events Femtocells Europe 2008 conference in June attracted over 250 delegates.
"Asia, with its undisputed lead and innovation in multimedia services for mobile phones, and in some cases very dense urban concentration, is going to test the femtocell or 'home zone' concept to the limit," comments Andrew Bateman, CEO of Avren Events. Issues of capacity, interference mitigation, zero-touch set up, interoperability, security, reliability and QOS are all uppermost in operators' minds as they firm up their plans for widespread femtocell deployment in the region. "This conference will be the largest single event to date in this region, bringing together all of the sector's key players. By co-locating the event with the Femto Forum standards meeting, delegates from across the globe will be present to discuss the business case, crucial standards progress, new service and ARPU opportunities as well as the latest technical solutions and product offerings."
The accompanying exhibition will feature the current femtocells, available now, together with the component suppliers and test equipment manufacturers.
The conference is to be held in the luxury five-star Bangkok Shangri-La hotel situated on the Chao Phraya River.
