Colfax International Enables High-Performance Computing in Office Environments, Introduces Quiet Compute Cluster With Active Noise Control Technology
Business Wire, Sept 2, 2008
New Innovative Offering Will Foster Noise-Free Workgroup and Departmental Clustering, Accelerating Business and Research Outcomes
SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Colfax International today introduced Colfax Quiet Compute Cluster (QCC) with Silentium's Active Noise Control (ANC) technology that is expected to significantly reduce noise generated by servers and networking equipment mounted in rack enclosures.
Small and midsize companies, workgroups, and departmental environments can now leverage the power of high-performance computing (HPC) to process compute-intensive workloads by deploying Colfax QCC in close proximity of people, rather than specialized IT rooms.
"Colfax is committed to provide technologies that solve our customers' pain points for smarter growth," said Gautam Shah, CEO, Colfax International. "This new innovative offering will usher in more creative use of HPC power, driving better business and research outcomes."
Significant noise reduction, high thermal dissipation
A high level of noise associated with server racks has been one of the biggest barriers in HPC adoption in office / lab environments. Colfax addresses the need for acoustic noise reduction with an innovative Active Noise Control (ANC) solution from Silentium. The technology is based on transmitting an "anti noise" signal that destructively interferes with the original noise. Silentium's proprietary noise-cancelling technology overcomes limitations of efficiency and heat dissipation of acoustic materials in reducing low-frequency noise.
The Colfax-Silentium solution achieves unprecedented spatial noise reduction over the entire frequency bandwidth of the audible spectrum than the traditional method of controlling fan-generated noise by the use of sound absorbing materials, known as passive noise control.
"Silentium is delighted to form this alliance with Colfax," said Yossi Barath, CEO, Silentium Ltd. "We expect that combining the breakthrough noise-cancelling technology of Silentium with Colfax Quiet Compute Cluster will deliver a compelling solution to meet the demands of quiet supercomputing."
Bringing high-performance computing to office / lab environments
The Colfax QCC provides customers access to supercomputing power to handle larger and more complex compute-intensive workloads outside of the data center, reduce design and development cycles, and drive new levels of innovation and productivity.
The Colfax QCC is an easy-to-use, easy-to-manage, turnkey system that meets existing power and noise requirements of office / lab environments.
Some of the key features of Colfax QCC include:
* Up to 42U rack enclosure
* Silentium Active Noise Control (ANC) technology
