Schuff Ranks 228 on the List
PHOENIX -- Schuff International, Inc. (OTC: SHFK), a family of companies providing fully integrated steel construction services, has been listed on the 2008 InformationWeek 500 as one of the nation's most innovative users of information technology. Schuff is the only structural steel company that made the list.
"For 20 years, the InformationWeek 500 has honored the most innovative users of business technology," said InformationWeek Editor-in-Chief Rob Preston. "Year after year, InformationWeek 500 companies harness technology to improve efficiency, boost productivity, drive revenue and establish a competitive advantage. We applaud this year's winners, and the CIOs and other executives whose ingenuity and risk taking are at the center of business technology innovation."
Schuff, the largest steel fabricator and erector in the United States, received the award for developing its own proprietary software for operations management and estimating.
Unique for a construction company, Schuff employs seven software developers.
"Because Schuff is both a steel erector and steel fabricator, there isn't a software product on the market that can efficiently deal with our business model or our growth. To increase building capacity while streamlining our business processes from fabrication through erection, we have made a substantial investment in technology," said Scott A. Schuff, president and CEO of Schuff International, Inc.
Schuff's proprietary software, Schuff Steel Integrated Management Systems (SSIMS), benefits customers as well as employees. "One of the greatest advantages of SSIMS is our ability to receive real-time information. SSIMS allows us to track every piece of steel used on a project. We can tell a customer if the steel is in fabrication, en route to the job site or if it has been erected. Schuff's estimating system has also increased efficiencies and precision. We can track different issues associated with each job, as well as costs," said Scott Hall, information systems applications manager, Schuff International, Inc.
"We are very pleased to be recognized as an InformationWeek 500 company. Technology has allowed Schuff the ability to construct technically challenging projects that would have been too cost and time prohibitive to build even five years ago. Technology has allowed us to expand the company more rapidly and increase our operating margin. It has enhanced project budgeting and scheduling. In addition, we can electronically interface with our construction and design partners through Building Information Models (BIM). Technology is a tremendous asset for our company," said Schuff.
