Business Wire, Sept 24, 2008

FLINT, Mich. -- His Majesty Carl XVI Gustaf, King of Sweden will visit Kettering University in Flint on Friday, Sept. 26. The King, Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm, and others will participate in a special ceremony in Kettering's John Recreation Center from 3:30 to 4 p.m. Doors open to the public at 1 p.m.

"It is a real honor for Kettering University to host Michigan's Governor and her guest, the King of Sweden," said Kettering Provost Michael Harris. "The King is coming to Kettering to celebrate the completion of a successful feasibility study on a proposed project with Swedish Biogas International."

Swedish Biogas, the City of Flint, Sweden's Linkoping University and Kettering University are currently in talks to build a plant that would digest wastewater and produce biogas. This project and partnership is intended to lead to the creation of a center focused on alternative energy options. The proposed biogas plant in Flint could be modeled after the successful facility in Linkoping, Sweden, that is efficiently converting biomethane into electricity for the city and fuel for city buses, Harris said.

Harris will serve as the master of ceremonies during the special event that will include a ceremonial groundbreaking. Officials participating in the ceremony are Kettering University President Stan Liberty, Flint Mayor Don Williamson, U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow, U.S. Ambassador to Sweden Michael Wood, Sweden's Ambassador to the U.S. Jonas Hafstrom, Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm and His Majesty Carl XVI Gustaf.
