Testimony Will Highlight How Diesel Industry Has Cleaned Up Its Technology In the Last Eight Years

WASHINGTON -- The director of a diesel trade association will testify before Congress this Wednesday on how the industry has complied with tougher clean-air regulations over the last eight years. Allen Schaeffer, executive director of the Diesel Technology Forum, will appear before the Senate Environment and Public Works committee at 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 24. As Clean Air Act regulations tightened over the last eight years, engine manufactures, fuel refiners and other industry stakeholders worked to accommodate stricter EPA guidelines. The move to clean diesel technology includes stringent new engine-emissions standards, the switch to ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel and, for engine manufactures, substantial innovation in emissions control technology, engine performance and management to meet both customer requirements and environmental standards.
