New Dose Calibrator Standard for Fluorine-18

Business Wire, Sept 24, 2008

SOLON, Ohio -- RadQual, LLC an Ohio based company is excited to announce the availability of the only direct traceable dose calibrator standard cross reference to Fluorine-18 (F-18).

The standard, using Germanium-68 and its daughter Gallium-68 (270.8 day half-life) in secular equilibrium is the only standard worldwide that provides a National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) traceable calibration for F-18 and is the culmination of two years of collaborative research by NIST.

"Until now manufacturers and end users of F-18 were using either Cesium-137 or Sodium-22 to calibrate their dose calibrators, neither of which provides an accurate value for 511keV radionuclides used in Positron Emission Tomography (PET). RadQual believes that the availability of this standard will enhance the quality control of F-18 from the manufacturers to the end user; it will also provide a credible tool to regulatory agencies to ensure compliance, and to imaging centers for accreditation," states Keith Allberg President of RadQual, LLC.

The standard, which is limited to RadQual's patent pending dual geometry source design, allows for calibration both in the syringe and vial positions and is only available through RadQual distributors.
