CEA Lauds Wilmington, NC as a Digital Pioneer
Business Wire, Sept 8, 2008
ARLINGTON, Va. -- In a successful harbinger of the nation's upcoming transition to digital television, all full-power television broadcasting in Wilmington, North Carolina today switches to digital. Residents in Wilmington who watch over-the-air broadcasts on an analog TV have been informed of the need to purchase a digital TV or converter box or subscribe to cable or satellite in order to continue watching TV. The following statement can be attributed to Gary Shapiro, CEA president and CEO:
"I am pleased that months of hard work and consumer education by government officials, industry and community leaders have proven successful. Five months ahead of the nationwide digital conversion on February 17, 2009, Wilmington officials have demonstrated they are true digital pioneers.
"This early transition will provide valuable insight as we approach the historic nationwide transition in 2009. Together with our industry and government partners, we remain committed to ensuring that television viewers do not lose service because they were not aware of the transition or their options."
