TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- FreedomWorks Chairman and former Majority Leader Dick Armey visited Tallahassee today to attend a taxpayer tea party and to discuss the various economic challenges facing Floridians, including the instability of the property insurance marketplace, property taxes, and the need for civil justice reform to end lawsuit abuse.
Armey met with leaders of Florida’s business and public policy community and delivered the keynote address at a luncheon held in cooperation with the Associated Industries of Florida, the James Madison Institute, and the Florida Justice Reform Institute.
Following the luncheon, Armey joined hundreds of grassroots activists at the Tallahassee Taxpayer Tea Party. Armey spoke in support of the activist campaign against devastating big government economic policy in Washington, DC and Tallahassee.
On Monday Armey addressed a similar tea party in Tampa as part of FreedomWorks’ effort to mobilize grassroot activists all over the state and send a powerful message on behalf of taxpayers.
Chairman Dick Armey commented:
“I appreciate the invitation to visit Florida by our FreedomWorks activists. We’re gathering to send a message that we oppose bailouts, big government, and bad economic policy that threatens the health of the economy.”
“President Obama and Congress are steamrolling American taxpayers with an agenda of government spending, higher taxes, and bailout after bailout. While many Floridians are worried about the trillion dollar federal deficits and what that will mean for the economy, Floridians are also under threat of big government from Tallahassee. Florida faces its own financial disaster unless important economic reforms are adopted to make sure the next inevitable severe hurricane will not bankrupt the state. Florida also has the opportunity to rein in property taxes, and adopt common sense legal reforms to end lawsuit abuse.”
“Florida’s economic growth is not by accident. In contrast to many Rust Belt states, Florida’s low taxation and pro-business regulatory environment have attracted investment and created jobs. Politicians should not risk Florida’s competitive advantages through cumbersome public policy.”
FreedomWorks is a grassroots organization with over 500,000 members nationwide and over 20,000 in Florida dedicated to lower taxes, less government, and more freedom.
