Greenberg Traurig Selects UCLA Law Student as Public Interest Fellow
Business Wire, March 17, 2009
LOS ANGELES -- The international law firm Greenberg Traurig LLP, working with Equal Justice Works, has selected Los Angeles law student Abigail Coursolle as one of its 2009 public interest law fellows. Greenberg Traurig named 10 individuals to receive funding through the Greenberg Traurig Fellowship Foundation to provide legal services pro bono to community programs.
As a fellow, Coursolle will work with Western Center on Law and Poverty, an organization that advances and enforces the rights of low-income Californians in health, housing and public assistance by working statewide for systemic change. She will graduate from University of California at Los Angeles School of Law in May 2009. She holds a B.A. magna cum laude from Yale University.
The Greenberg Traurig/Equal Justice Works fellowships begin in September and run for two years. The combined classes of 2008 and 2009 will consist of 21 fellows across the firm’s 32 offices.
Coursolle’s work will include monitoring California’s General Assistance and Indigent Health programs to ensure adequate grants, income limits, access, and due process protections, identifying best and worst practices for intervention.
“We are proud that our commitment to pro bono and to the Fellowship Program translates into real world assistance for those in our communities who most need help,” said Jeff Scott, managing shareholder of Greenberg Traurig’s Los Angeles office.
Greenberg Traurig attorneys regularly and significantly impact the communities in which they live and work through pro bono representation of individuals with limited means, particularly by working with legal aid programs. The firm’s Fellowship Foundation was founded in 1998 by shareholder Holly Skolnick, who serves as president of the foundation and leads the firm’s pro bono efforts. Since its inception, the firm’s program has sponsored, in whole or in part, more than 85 fellows. The Greenberg Traurig Fellowships offer salary and loan repayment assistance, a national training and leadership development program, and other forms of support.
