Applications Now Being Accepted for Service Center Positions;

Newly Launched Web Site Creates Convenient Application Process for Candidates

HARLINGEN, Texas -- Texas Governor Rick Perry and Harlingen Mayor Chris Boswell welcomed leaders from UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH) to Harlingen City Hall today, where they announced that the Company will begin accepting job applications immediately for positions at its service center in Harlingen, Texas. Managed by Ovations, UnitedHealth Group’s health and well-being company for seniors, the service center is slated to begin operating in late summer or early fall 2009 and will initially employ between 100 and 150 employees, with the potential to grow to up to 250 employees by the end of the year and more than 700 employees over the next five years. Job candidates can take advantage of the ease and convenience of an online application process via a new Web site: www.greateratwork.com/harlingen.

UnitedHealth Group worked closely with the Texas Governor’s Office of Economic Development in selecting Harlingen as the site of the new service center. Governor Rick Perry expressed enthusiasm for the benefits the new center will bring to the state.

“This announcement by UnitedHealth Group is affirmation that our efforts to foster a culture where new jobs can be created and sustained are paying off,” Gov. Perry said. “Businesses come to the Lone Star State seeking the best possible location to invest and risk their capital, the best available workforce, regulatory systems that protect without stifling innovation and tax structures that allow folks to keep more of what they earn. We have worked hard to establish these key characteristics of Texas’ business climate and will continue to protect these job creating elements in the months to come.”

The UnitedHealth Group service center in Harlingen will support Ovation’s existing Medicare business. The center’s representatives will perform a number of critical functions including handling consumer calls related to enrollment, general plan and medical benefits, billing, Part D prescription drug coverage and member ID cards. The center will seek to hire a diverse set of employees, including bilingual representatives to assist the company’s growing Hispanic membership.

“We’re pleased to partner with the city of Harlingen to open our new service center, and effective immediately, interested job applicants can pursue an opportunity to work for UnitedHealth Group in this great community,” said Larry Renfro, chief executive officer of Ovations. “South Texas is already a vibrant area in which to live and work, and we’re looking forward to becoming an active participant in the region’s economic growth and prosperity.”

Ovations will initially focus on filling customer-service representative positions at the UnitedHealth Group service center. Opportunities in management, information technology, quality, training and other support roles are also available. UnitedHealth Group will also partner with Texas State Technical College and Workforce Solutions Cameron to begin training employees as early as June.

The initial application and screening process will be conducted online at www.greateratwork.com/harlingen. The Web site provides information on employment opportunities at the new center and allows candidates to apply for available positions. Applicants who do not have easy access to a personal computer can apply using computers available to the public at Workforce Solutions Cameron or any local library. Skills assessment and interviews will commence the week of March 30th for candidates who pass minimum requirements through the online application process.

Job applicants who would like to speak with an Ovations representative to get more information about the job opportunities can visit the Ovations booth at three upcoming job fairs: the Cameron Works job fairs on April 1st in Brownsville and Harlingen, and the Texas State Technical College job fair on April 15th.

The Harlingen City Commission gave final approval for the new center on Feb. 27. It will be located in the former Albertson’s building, 2222 S. 77 Sunshine Strip, Harlingen, Texas, 78550. UnitedHealth Group is leasing the building from the Harlingen Economic Development Corporation (HEDC) and is in the process of investing $6 million in renovations to accommodate its operations.
