Nation’s Premier Air Quality Conference Set for October 2009 in Arlington, Virginia

Business Wire, March 26, 2009

GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The nation’s premier international conference on air quality, including carbon management, mercury, trace substances, sulfur oxide (SOx), nitrus oxide (NOx), and particulate matter, will be held October 26–29, 2009, at the Crystal Gateway Marriott Hotel in historic Arlington, Virginia, just minutes from Capitol Hill. The International Air Quality VII Conference is organized by the Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC) at the University of North Dakota, a worldwide leader in developing cleaner, more energy-efficient energy technologies, as well as environmental technologies to clean our air, water, and soil.

The EERC has received more than 115 abstracts from presenters all over the world, including eight countries, 24 states, and the District of Columbia.

“We are expecting a tremendous collection of engaging speakers to participate in this year’s event,” said EERC Director Gerald Groenewold. “There could not be a better time period to discuss the critical challenges facing our world’s population in the areas of energy sustainability, carbon management, and air quality improvements. With the new administration in place, there are countless opportunities for developing clean, efficient, and viable technologies which will improve our global environment.”

While many factors contribute to air pollution and quality, the energy sector has been specifically targeted for environmental regulation. With ever-increasing global demands for energy coupled with the need for ensuring economically viable and environmentally conscious technologies, Air Quality VII will address air quality as a global issue and its associated challenges as they relate to the energy sector.

The biennial event is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy National Energy Technology Laboratory and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), Inc., along with exclusive media sponsor, Pollution Engineering Magazine.

Air Quality VII will include two streams of concurrent technical sessions focused on air quality impacts on policy; markets; health and ecosystems; measurement methods; carbon dioxide separation, capture, and storage; emission control and prevention; and atmospheric reactions and modeling.

Early-bird registration is available online at www.undeerc.org/AQ7. To receive the best rate on a full-access conference pass, register before September 1, 2009. Exhibit space for the Air Quality VII trade show is filling up fast. The Air Quality VI Conference, held in September 2007, attracted 445 registrants representing 41 states, the District of Columbia, six Canadian provinces, and 14 countries. More than 70% of the attendees represented industry.
