Business Wire, April 21, 2009
STAMFORD, Conn. -- Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE: PBI) announced today that it has been named to Ethisphere Institute’s “World’s Most Ethical Companies” list for its third consecutive year. Pitney Bowes earned a spot on the list for its leadership in corporate responsibility and strong standards of ethical corporate governance.
Ethisphere Institute, a research think tank dedicated to the creation, advancement and sharing of best practices in business ethics, corporate social responsibility, anti-corruption and sustainability, has published the World’s Most Ethical rankings for three years. The 2009 list will appear in Ethisphere Magazine's Q1 issue, to be published the week of April 20.
“We are honored to be recognized as a leader by Ethisphere Institute in upholding the highest ethical business standards,” said Murray Martin, Chairman, President and CEO, Pitney Bowes Inc. “Our values of accountability and integrity are ingrained in our culture—it’s the right way to do business.”
Pitney Bowes incorporates ethics and compliance into the day-to-day activities of all employees. Employees are given annual training courses on ethical sales practices and compliance while managers are rated in their annual performance review on their ethical leadership. In addition, an anonymous Ethics Help Line is a resource for employees to obtain guidance in dealing with an ethical dilemma or to report suspected wrongdoing.
The methodology for the WME ranking includes reviewing codes of ethics, litigation and regulatory infraction histories; evaluating the investment in innovation and sustainable business practices; looking at activities designed to improve corporate citizenship; studying nominations from senior executives, industry peers, suppliers and customers; and working with consumer action groups for feedback. Additional information provided by the companies through questionnaires is also analyzed.
