INVO Centers in Operation in the Developing Nations Indicate Progress for INVO Bioscience, Inc.
Business Wire, April 27, 2009
BEVERLY, Mass. -- INVO Bioscience, Inc. (OTC BB: IVOB), a medical device company focused on treatment options for patients diagnosed with infertility, announced today that it is making significant progress with its INVO Centers in the Middle East and Africa. The INVOcell, INVO Bioscience’s patented product, allows for vaginal incubation of eggs, sperm and early embryo development during the infertility treatment process.
INVO Bioscience currently has eight INVO Centers in operation in Pakistan through a distribution agreement with Galaxy Pharma, one of the Middle East’s leading distributors of pharmaceutical products in the field of gynecology and oncology. The agreement allows Galaxy Pharma to sell and distribute the INVOcell and related equipment in 20 Middle East countries, including Pakistan, Syria, Jordan and Lebanon. There are currently only four IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) programs in Pakistan leaving the needs of infertile couples largely unmet. INVO Bioscience has opened eight INVO Centers in Pakistan and four additional centers are planned for completion by mid 2009. These new and innovative treatment centers will make treatment options much more accessible to patients seeking to build their family.
“Pakistan has a very large population of approximately 165 million, with a high rate of infertility at nearly 20 percent,” Karloff added. “We are experiencing significant progress since introducing the INVO process in Pakistan. We also train physicians in the INVO procedure, who are welcoming it as a more approachable and affordable method of infertility treatment.”
In Togo, Africa, INVO Bioscience President Dr. Claude Ranoux was invited as a keynote speaker at the World Health Organization’s (WHO) sponsored conference, “African Group for Research and Application on Infertility” on February 15-17 where he also trained 10 physicians interested in performing the INVO procedure for their patients. Three centers have started the INVO procedure in their clinics and additional centers are scheduled to adopt the INVO procedure going forward.
The INVO Centers offer INVO Bioscience’s new device, the INVOcell, as a more affordable, accessible option for infertile couples. The INVOcell has already received European CE Mark approval and in 2008, the Company launched the product in select countries outside the United States. INVO Bioscience, Inc. will also be pursuing U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearance for the INVOcell.
“We look forward to our continued efforts and expansion of INVO Centers to other Middle Eastern markets that include Syria, Jordan and Lebanon as well as in Africa,” said Kathleen Karloff, Chief Executive Officer of INVO Bioscience, Inc.
In addition to more affordable treatment, INVO Centers are also easier to access, since they can operate out of existing IVF centers or in satellite / physician’s offices. In developing nations, IVF labs often lose power, causing failure of the conventional IVF laboratory incubators and supporting equipment. The INVOcell allows for improved incubation control because the device is incubated in the vaginal cavity.
“We believe the INVO procedure offers numerous benefits to meet the needs of infertile couples. We are extremely pleased with the progress being made in the Middle East and other countries, and we anticipate continued growth to offer a new solution to infertility on a global level,” said Karloff.
About the INVO Procedure
The INVOcell and INVO Procedure combine a natural or mild (mild medication) stimulation infertility treatment cycle, using lower amounts of injectable fertility hormones than used in traditional IVF (in vitro fertilization), with intra-vaginal incubation (IVC) of sperm and eggs. Following standard egg retrieval, the woman’s eggs (oocytes) are combined with sperm in the INVOcell, a small device, which is then sealed and placed in the woman’s vaginal cavity to incubate for three days. When the INVOcell is removed, the anticipated one to two developing embryos are transferred directly into the woman's uterine cavity, where implantation and continued pregnancy can take place.
The company has received European CE Mark approval for the INVOcell and, in 2008, launched the product in select countries outside the U.S. The company is also pursuing U.S. Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance for the INVOcell.
