Business Wire, May 20, 2009
ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- Michael Baker Jr., Inc., an engineering unit of Michael Baker Corporation (NYSE Amex:BKR), announced today that the design-build team of Tompkins/Baker has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Norfolk District, to design and construct the up to $90 million Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) headquarters facility at Fort Eustis, Virginia. The total constructed value of the facility includes a $78.1 million initial construction value and a future construction option of $11.6 million.
Baker will provide a full-range of planning, architectural and interior design, and landscape architecture services for the 260,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art, LEED Silver-certified building which, when completed, will be one of three “4-star" U.S. Army headquarters. The facility will provide high quality, private-sector/commercial-style office, auditorium and conference space.
“This important assignment provides Baker with another opportunity to team with Tompkins,” said Baker’s Carl Kemp, AIA, vice president. “The value this team brings to the TRADOC project stems from our previous success on the recently completed Sustainment Center of Excellence (SCOE) headquarters building located at Ft. Lee, Virginia, for the Corps.”
