Prevent Theft in Home or at Office with New Asset Protection Device from Protection One

Security Sensor Notifies Owner When Valuable Items Are Removed

LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Protection One, Inc. (Nasdaq: PONE), one of the nation’s leading providers of security systems to homes and businesses, has launched the Asset Protection Sensor, a security device created to prevent the theft of valuable possessions. When used with Protection One’s unique e-Secure system, a real-time monitoring service providing updates directly to cell phones, PDAs and similar devices, this small sensor provides notification to users the instant a valuable item, such as a painting, cash box or computer with confidential data, is moved from its place.

Security from theft is always paramount for homes and businesses, but not all threats are as obvious as a break-in. While traditional monitored security systems are highly effective at stopping unanticipated intruders, they are not always able to protect against perpetrators who may be on the premises legitimately such as office staff, housekeepers, contractors and other patrons. The Asset Protection Sensor protects against internal or external theft by attaching to any item that the user wants to signal an alarm or notification for, anytime it is moved.

“We have been highly successful in protecting homes and businesses from intruders but recognize that break-in burglaries are not the only security threat. Unfortunately, it is a reality that we sometimes need to protect valuables from people who are not only allowed, but welcome into our homes and businesses,” explains Protection One President and CEO Richard Ginsburg. “The Asset Protection Sensor is just one example of our continuous commitment to providing comprehensive protection.”

Using patented Micro-Electro-Mechanical System (MEMS) Accelerometer technology to detect if an object has been moved, this wireless security system has four function modes that trigger an alarm or notification based on the user’s preferences. This allows for customization of the type of movement required to signal the alarm and the way the notification is delivered. Each function caters to the type of item chosen for protection based upon the probability of movement and takes into consideration small movements for routine cleaning or slight adjustments. The four function modes are:

1. High Sensitivity: Triggered when item is moved for one to three seconds.

2. Standard Sensitivity: Triggered when moved five to six seconds.

3. Tilt mode: Triggered when tilt exceeds 30 degrees.

4. Anti-tamper: Triggered when front case and/or rear is moved or tilted.

Customizable notifications can be delivered via e-mail, phone, immediate police dispatch or through Protection One’s unique integrated e-Secure system. Protection One’s e-Secure system is a unique service allowing users to monitor and control their security systems using the internet via computer, PDA or text-enabled cell phone and provides real-time notifications of security alerts. The Asset Protection Sensor also has built-in anti-tampering technology, to prevent removal or disabling of the sensor; any attempt to corrupt the device will automatically set off alerts to the user.

Conveniently measuring only one and three-quarters square inches in diameter and three-quarters of an inch thick and available in white or dark gray, strategically designed for camouflaged protection, the Protection One Asset Protection Sensor is easily hidden for unparalleled full-time security.
