CradlePoint Announces Support of the Novatel MiFi with Latest Firmware Release
Business Wire, July 10, 2009
Now Available Firmware Version 1.6 Allows Tethering of Novatel’s MiFi
BOISE, Idaho -- CradlePoint Technology, the global leader in 3G and 4G network solutions, has added Novatel’s MiFi to its’ list of supported devices, allowing both Sprint and Verizon Wireless MiFi owners to use the device as a modem when attached to a CradlePoint router.
“Customers can increase the range of their Wi-Fi signal, connect up to 64 Wi-Fi devices, and add features like automatic failover and unlimited LAN connections by tethering the MiFi to a CradlePoint router,” said Jack Alton, VP Sales North America for CradlePoint. “It really is a terrific option for users that need more range and speed than the MiFi can manage, like when you need to cover an entire home or office with a Wi-Fi signal,” added Alton.
Normally, when the MiFi is connected, or tethered, to a laptop the Wi-Fi feature is disabled. However, when tethered to a CradlePoint router, the MiFi is seen as a simple modem, giving users a Wi-Fi signal even while the MiFi is charging. Also, when the MiFi is connected as a modem, the CradlePoint router’s feature set takes over for a much more robust user experience.
"We see this as a great solution for someone who wants the simplicity of the MiFi while traveling, but needs the bandwidth and range of a full-powered router when at home or work," stated Mike Ginsberg of 3GStore.com.
CradlePoint’s firmware release version 1.6 includes support for Sprint’s Sierra Wireless Aircard 402, Sierra Wireless USB 598, Blackberry Bold (9000) and fixes some issues with BlackBerrys running 4.5 software. Effected CradlePoint models include; CBA250 Cellular Broadband Adapter, CTR500 Mobile Broadband Travel Router, MBR800 Mobile Broadband Router for Kiosks, MBR1000 Mobile Broadband Router and MBR1100 Mobile Broadband Router with VPN.
